I love both if I want to be honest........the summer Olympics would be my first choice, I do love them and always have done. I didn't bother with the Winter ones until maybe around 2000 I watched a couple of things and decided I would like to see more. so now I have the time (me being retired) I can watch both. Looking forward to the Winter ones next year.

The Summer Olympics would be my choice.

The Olympic Games costs the host Nation a fortune to stage and often the infrastructure is underused afterward .
Surely the correct place to stage the games should be as near as possible to Mount Olympus, with the competing Nations contributing to the upkeep of a permanent Olympic village ?

Bat I totally agree. We have both been saying this for years,it makes far more sense than building a new stadium, roads ect.
Why can't the powers that be have the sense to see this.

I agree as well with this, after all the Olympic games were born in Greece and they should always be staged there as well. the only thing we need to know is:- did Greece in the beginning when realizing the number of nations taking part, perhaps found it overwhelming to stage themselves money wise. We don't know the answer to that, Greece themselves may have insisted competing nations should take their turn in staging them. I am not so sure Greece, even if every competing nation put money in the pot .....so to speak, would be interested, given circumstances they live in today. They were in a financial bad way last year or the year before. Also some of the competing nations are so poor themselves that Athletes can barely get traveling expenses from there own governments to take part in the games whatever country they had to travel to.

Conversely, could the games be established in such a way so as to stimulate Greece's economy? eg with sponsorship and franchising.
It would at least provide employment for several thousand in a region of high unemployment.

Bat I think that makes a lot of sense. The powers that be certainly need to do something before the games become a complete disaster.
We have watched them for years but now it is so political and so many drugs invovled that it is no longer the enjoyable events we used to see.
Does anybody else feel like this?

I actually think that's a brilliant idea of Bats, and lets face it, Greece could be well off with it. Certainly gets my vote. As for the drugs side that Sheka mentioned, yes something has to done about that. I was astonish some months ago when in the news we heard how the Russian team got tested and when in the room to pass water they were handed a clean sample through a hole by someone on the other side of the wall, DISGUSTING. The testing area should be completely isolated and no team member or team official should be within 10 feet of the athlete being tested. All athletes should be tested after a race. I know they conduct random tests but obviously that isn't enough. As I said before, I Love the games but now ask myself after the race finishes, did he or she win on their on Merit or were they helped along with drugs. Yes something needs to be done to stop this cheating.

Paula Radcliffe‏ and other athletes stand to lose their World records in a European Athletics Proposal - which attempts to restore credibility to athletics by deleting any records that do not meet a set criteria.

The article includes a statement by Paula Radcliffe lower in the page.
