I agree Bunny that is not right. We don't have front gardens just paving straight onto the parking area. When we moved here almost 4 years ago it was all brand new and we were told the extra we pay on our council tax is for the council to maintain this paving and cut the grass verge.
They don't do either we buy weed killer to put down and one of the elderly men cut the grass. As this is for elderly/disabled it is not right that they don't ever clean up.if the bin men drop rubbish we are exspected to pick it up.

In answer to your question Bunny............What would you do if you could run the country

Get all the people who are claiming benifits ,not because they are genuinly unable to get a job ,re because of health or other reasons but because they are to lazy.....well get them to earn their benfits by cleaning up towns and helping old or confirm people.

Bunny I think the people with money do fine it's the likes of us that could do with some help. When you have worked most of your life and saved why should we have to use all our saving just to do what the council should be doing.

Getting multinational companies - like Amazon - to pay their fair share of tax.
There would be plenty enough money to cover benefiets, council subsidies and the NHS if they did.
Not having these huge companies pay tax is also unfair to all those businesses that do pay their share. For instance how many mail order companies have either gone bust or had to contract their operations while Amazon with an unfair advantage of paying little or no tax, in just a few years, has grabbed just about the whole of that market.
Once they have raked in their billions, all these multinationals have to do is invoice from abroad, send the money abroad, and then make the claim that the British part of their company is losing(!!!!!) money.

The principle should be - money earned in Britain is taxed in Britain.

If I was running the country. Only come into the country if you have a contribution to this country and while here, speak english or learn to speak it. Anything that gives you a criminal record, off back to your own country.
Disability benefits are for disabled people and people with an illness that stops them from working not for alcoholics and drug addicts. I would also make sure that nobody sees an illness or disabilty as the same for every person.
Young people to stay in education until age 18. If they want to leave at 16 then have them out to clean up park areas or children's areas of all the rubbish and tidy gardens for the people who can't. Once they reach 18 then they get to leave that and go and do what they want with their lives.

After having made such statements I ought really have included a source in my above post so  -

http://www.ethicalconsumer.org/commentanalysis/corporatewatch/amazonandtaxavoidance.aspx

---

Although the idea is usually rejected as being unworkable in modern society, bringing back National Service I feel would be beneficial in many ways.
As well as helping to keep down unemployment it would help install a measure of discipline and a sense of self worth to young men ans women.
There could be alternative Public Service for those who really object to being a member of the Armed Forces.
One argument previously against it has been that Nation Service would dilute the professionalism of our modern army - but then again there has always been different regiments with different levels and areas of expertise.

Unfortunately, fortunately whichever way you look at it I never did national service, too young, grade 4 {whatever that was} medically and too much in love to leave my g/f and swan off to Germany, Egypt or Cyprus, so she tells me. Personally I do agree that discipline is now at an all time low and perhaps national service could go a long way to remedy some of the young peeps attitude to life.

Now, if I ran the country, firstly I'd pick it up and move it where there is warmer and more settled weather, that rules out Florida and the Caribbean I guess. So a nice island with sandy beaches and no creepy crawlies, in the Atlantic perhaps! Move over PM May and let me have a go you can stay here if you wish, without me and mine though you'd get lonely :swdr2:

An idea that's been kicked around for the last year or two is that instead of giving people benefits and pensions, every citizen should receive a basic living wage as a right.

The Guardian article - Universal wage trial in Scotland

Sounds like a great idea to bring financial justice  and security to everyone, Right !

Wrong! This sort of ultra-socialist claptrap would just encourage every layabout to avoid getting work!
